Bridging the STEM Skills Gap Involves Both Education and Industry Commitments

June 12, 2019At the 2019 International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA) conference held March 27-30 in Kansas City, Missouri, a team of twelve students from Purdue Polytechnic Institute Department of Technology Leadership and Innovation (TLI) won seven of the conference’s awards and were named ITEEA’s overall Competitive Events National Champions.
Three of the award recipients played an integral role in the development of the STEM Education Works curriculum: Scott Bartholomew, the team’s co-advisor and assistant professor of engineering/technology teacher education at Purdue, was honored with the Public Understanding of Technology and Engineering Education Award; William Walls, a graduate research assistant; and Vanessa Santana, an undergraduate researcher.
The award-winning Purdue team also participated in the development of STEM Education Works’ upcoming Module 2 curriculum, “Foundations of Engineering, Technology, and Manufacturing”, launching later this year. You can learn more about our curriculum and details of Module 1 here.
